If learning academic vocabulary is something you want to improve on, there are multiple ways you can do so. It doesn't have to be daunting, overwhelming or difficult.
Here are some of the best methods for learning academic vocabulary:
This is one of the best ways you can learn academic vocabulary fast. By reading more, you encounter new words daily and you learn them naturally through context. The more "natural" (meaning relevant) or appropriate (meaning used in the context of what you're reading about) way of learning a word is, the better chance it has of sticking with you.

Reading also helps with your writing because it's easy to tell which words you're using incorrectly (you'll notice the difference between "there" and "their"). When you read more, you become more familiar with how each word is used and what its appropriate context is.

Reading also exposes you to new ideas, concepts and ways of thinking; all of which contribute to your overall writing ability. Incorporate a dictionary into your regular routine. If you have a hard time remembering words from your readings, look those words up in a dictionary immediately after reading them.

Study Groups
Although they aren't for everyone, group projects are one of the best ways to combat procrastination. If you're looking for a little extra motivation, consider organizing a study session with some friends who are also interested in improving their vocabulary.

Find the Word
In order to learn a word, you first have to find it. An easy way to do this is to pick out the words you don't know every time you read or take notes. You can highlight them or make a list of them. If you find it helpful, you can also look up the definitions of these words, but be careful about doing too much research; this can lead to analysis paralysis. Your goal is simply to learn the meaning of the word.

Apply New Words
Once you've learned the meanings of new words, try applying them in different contexts. If you're learning French, for example, try using some new vocabulary words in conversation with native French speakers. If you're learning other languages, try translating some very simple texts so that you can use your new vocabulary in an authentic way.
